North Ryde Ramble

Thanks to:
Paula and Margaret - cooking, cooking, cooking, cutting, cutting cutting and cleaning
Leonor - lifting, cleaning, organising, starting at 5.30, for the stars & cloths !
Sharyn - returning to run for the marking of the course; bringing all the essentials
Ghost Rider - muscles and maps
Ted and Lee - moral support and early morning help
Phil - for bringing a great MTG (given the younger age profile of this group I was glad I joined in Canberra 08!)
Sean - for good humour as always
Kate, Alec, Nicola, Sean and Jarvis - Striders 2020...

Special thanks to Paula, Sharyn & Leonor for practicing getting lost so that the course was marked correctly!

Who else would be such an easy group to organise but a bunch of mums who run marathons and Ghost Rider.

Hey Guys,

That was the most wonderful spread of post run drinks and food you put on this morning - well done you.

Sorry If I was a little distracted, but I was worried that Jarvis might take out The Striders Presidents eye or something like that, with all those bloody sticks. Not a great look aye.

So yeah, well done and have a look at some of the pictures from this morning on Jarvis blog:

See you all next weekend, as I'm busting to run again.

Thanks for organising it all Denise. I love it when someone else is dealing with the stress.

It was a great success. Loved the pikelets and the healthy tasty breakfast was a treat. Adored the "stars" Leonor, although it took me a while to make the connection.

The only thing that wasn't ab fab was the bloody run.

For those who didn't speak with him, Mike Elliot (?) was saying that he went from overwieght 40 y/o non runner to Comrades in 1 year, ie starting with 100m walk / 100m runs, to his first half in about 3 months, then his first marathon attempt (DNF) at 6 months, his first successful marathon completed at 7 months, then constant weekly distance and weekend long runs, and only a few much longer runs, a 50, a 60 and a 65 as his longest run (I think) in preparation for the Big Day.

That said, I'm still underdone for the Gold Coast and having all kinds of niggles, but that seems to be inevitable, and as Ted and Sharyn, and Leonor have shown, its just a matter of persevering.

See you all Sat & or Sun.

Hey Bruce,
Are you doing the 10k on Saturday? I would like to because it is a very nice, close run for me, but it's always very hard to get off the hook on Saturday and Sunday morning.
Is anyone else thinking of doing Saturday?
Good luck if you do...it's PB time!
Margaret

There is some irony to this statement but I will do Sat if it rains as Ian may not be paddling - won't know until the day.

Bruce - how is the speed work coming - I see they are still looking for a 40 min pacer on Sat..

I'm planning on doing the 10k tomorrow, and the Star on Sunday with the MTG and then Phil is going to add 10 for a 30. That will be most of my running for the week between court cases and a problem with a tooth. I'm having an extraordinarily average preparation for the Gold Coast so far but we will make it.

I hope Peter is going OK for GC. I assume he'll be there Saturday fanging the speed again. It was nice seeing John again on Sunday too. He's looking strong for Cities.

As for the sprint training, we've gone back to doing the mid week runs as faster tempo runs.

40 minute pacer? Sure, if its for a 7k run. They don't paddle if its raining - because they're worried about getting wet?

See everybody Sat & or Sun.

Sorry have been slack with checking blog ... too much running in the rain - ha!!

Yep, I will also be racing the 10K. I've also heard Lee will be there.

Should be good and I've actually seen a bit of the sun today.

See you all tomorrow and Sunday - bring on our Manly weekend!
