Hi Guys,
Hope to see you all at 5.30am for our final 35km run before the "big one".
Start/finish: Wahroonga Park, Cnr Millewa and Illoura Ave, Wahroonga
If everyone can bring their usual $3, I will get post race food. Bring own gels though (Pete, I still owe you).
At least 6 people from the Putney run are coming too... Fran, Pauline, Karen etc.
I had a big fall running through the bush at 6am in the dark this morning. Split my knee - 5 stiches. Still finished the run. yay. Thanks to Fran for the TLC. Didn't hurt half as much as my legs by the end :)
Good running 'til Friday

Oh you poor thing! How on earth did you finish the run with such an obviously bad cut????
Thanks for hosting the STaR full monty. We had begun the discussions at Smithfield today to organise a "bring a plate" type STaR. But you doing it all and me handing you $3 works really really well for me - THANK YOU
See you Friday!
Paula
Hi Sharyn
Sorry to hear about your fall. I hope it's not too sore by now.
I'm happy to bring anything to the STaR on Friday if you want a hand come Thursday evening, let me know. It's a lot to organise on you own.
Our run went well today. I enjoyed it much more than last time out there. I stayed well away from the lollies at the aid stations. It just goes to show how things can go either way on the day.
Take it easy with your sore knee this week.
Margaret
Sharyn, I'm so sorry to hear about your knee. How are you feeling today?
I hope the recovery goes nicely. What a godsend to have Fran with you.
Look after yourself and hope all goes well.
Please let me know if I can do anything from here.
Take care
Leonor
Hey Sharyn, well done on finishing with what was a leg covered in blood. Any photos for the site? Fran gave me the rundown of your spill - she was very impressed you finished.
I managed 3.88kms hobbling on my own!!
To answer a question from yesterday - this high mileage makes a MASSIVE difference. You can't run a marathon just a few days after putting in a 30k-er. You guys are just going to love tapering and it's so close now. In the week prior to the marathon we only have 7km on the program, so you're going to have so much energy you won't be able to sit still.
But seriously, a 3-week taper makes all the difference for race day. None of your training runs will be the same as the race.
Read my weekly update for comments on running 35km this weekend. I don't recommend you run it if you are feeling sore in any way - do a 25k-er or something and don't push into the "injury zone".
Well done on the Smithfield run Paula & Bruce. 30kms is such a doddle for you nowadays.
Phil
Hey Guys,
BUSTING to run on Friday, as I had a MAJOR dip in motivation last week. Got up at 5.00am and put on my running gear three days in a row, only to go back to bed. Then on Saturday only did 10K of my planned 30K before getting back in the car. Nearly threw my Navman and fuel belt in Iron Cove and quit running for good. After running with buddies on MTGs, I just cant do the solo runs anymore.
So yeah, hanging out for Friday.
Lee :o)
I always knew that in her heart of hearts Paula Mc loved Smithfield. She flirted initially, saying she didn't love it ... yet still coming back, but when those brand new shoes dropped into her lap like high tech shiny white mana from heaven, she was a gonna. But nature runs in balance, and on the same day Paula fell in love with Smithfield, Peter fell out. Of course, like so many things at Smithfield, these things are relative. Despite this love lost Peter still ran by los trios run-barkos (Paula, me and Capital D) heading in the other direction for the finish line with John, Alicia and Ted while we were still trying to catch up with Margaret de Florette. (I think Chris was at home having lunch by this stage.)
Hope you are both going well Leonor and Phil. I've got to say I'm struggling this week a bit like HouseDad, and the niggles are making me concerned about injury risks. I'll see how tonight's run goes, but I may be restricting myself to a 25k option on Friday. [Still like the way it sounds though. If I don't feel up to a LONG run, I may just run 25km)]
Sean says hi and he'll be there Friday.
Blog soon. B.
Anyway,
Wahroonga turn pike.
My Russell Crow (Gluteus Maximus) niggle turned into a nasty on last nights run. I tried to run through it but it got worse not better. I pulled up at the 10km mark and walked (hobbled?) back. I'm feeling better this AM so I believe its not a major problem. I've felt this kind of pain before (which I ignored causing long term damage to my ankle) so I'm going to take myself out for Frida's run, go and see a physio and nurse myself through. I think that means my taper starts ... now. Hope you all enjoy a Good Friday run and I'll see you in 2 Sundays. B.
Hey Bruce
I hope your injury sorts itself out quickly. It sounds like the best thing to do, to rest it and start the taper sooner rather than later. I have had an easy week myself, just two 10k runs, as I am anticipating a hammering on Friday, let's hope the last one before The Big Day.
See the rest of you tomorrow a,m, Don't forget your glowsticks!
Margaret
Personally I think Bruce is afraid of the dark - but his excuse and use of Latin term for his injury sounds well researched!
Now who will bring the jelly babies?
See you tomorrow
It's official
Bruce has a tight ass!!! ;-)
(someone HAD to say it and you can always rely on me to be inappropriate!)
Bruce, that sounds like the muscles tightening up due to all our miles. I saw my physio today after a break of two weeks and there was a noticeable increase in my muscle tighteness(is that a word) Tim still reckons I'm right for the big M and that all the niggles are merely a function of the shear miles we're running.
You have already done a 36km run - and that is enough. Phil himself said tomorrow was optional.
Sooo..... enjoy the taper, stretch much and often.
I will miss you and your jelly babies. :-(
See you for a polite 25km around Vaucluse.
Now House Dad - you're missing us??? I think there's a pill you can get for that!
Seriously, I know exactly where you're at, I definitely suffer without my fellow striders on the week day runs. My friends and family have taken to referring to you all as "the cult".
The dark mornings don't help either.
See you all tomorrow!
Paula
I'm just getting ready to go to bed...it is almost 6pm, and I realized I forgot to buy GOO!Is there anyone who could bring a couple of spares tomorrow morning, I'll be happy, no desperate, to buy them. I only have one chocolate left, and I wouldn't wish that on anyone.
Thanks
Margaret
PS I wish I could say my arse was getting tight! Isn't that why we're doing this?
Margaret - my gu is your gu
I've got a whole box of "chocolate outrage". Did I mention that my husband bought me a very romantic present last week? It was said box of gus - am I lucky or what?? I shall pack an extra couple for you.
Sweet dreams
Paula
Hey Guys,
I'm SO EXCITED about tomorrows run. You tend to get that when you are home alone with little people.
I'll bring along some spare GU too. My boys bought me a box for my birthday yesterday. It's orange Burst.
Right, off to pack my bag ready for the run.
Lee :o)
Thanks guys, no offence Paula, but i prefer Orange!
Did you mean tight ass, or Titus the friend of Gluteus Maximas? Happy with either. That's why "I'm too sexy" is on the Ipod.
I'm still going to buy a bag of Jelly Babys and eat them tomorrow morning. Hopefully I'll be good for the Vaucluse stroll. B.
