Awards Dinner

Has anyone given any thought to attending the Striders Award Dinner on Friday May 23rd? I would like to go, especially to hear the guest speaker, Bruce Fordyce, an ultra-marathoner, discussing his experiences. Maybe the Fab 5 and friends could get a table together.
Hope everyone is enjoying the Easter break

I'd like to go - if only to see everyone not in lycra! (ok Bruce you can wear your lime lycra pants if you want...)

Hi folks, unfortunately I can't make the awards night as I am out of town (for the second year in a row). I would encourage you guys to book a table as it will be a great night. Hey, and you can talk about running!
Well done on the run on Friday, I will be joining you for 25km on Sunday, which I am looking forward to after being on the sidelines for 4 weeks.

I'de be interested. That's the Friday night after the SMH half (which is apparently filling fast because of the new improved course). My lycra pants are light blue and only appear greeny-limey in colour before 5am when the light is poor.

Peter I hope you are OK. Backing up a 35km with a 25km and then a 10km and changing to new shoes sounded like a BIG weekend of running to start the taper. I'm going to take my legs out for a slow turn over tomorrow night to see how they go.

I took my legs out for a run this evening...big mistake! My knees feel really bruised after Friday's fall, so I think I'll rest for a few days, Mother Nature is telling me to slow down. That's good to hear that you're interested in the dinner, Denise and Bruce, and yes by then Phil, I will be desperate to find someone to talk about running with because my family and friends will be so totally over it.
Peter, I was thinking also that your first weekend of the taper sounded pretty intense, or are you just having a joke, At that rate you'll wear out the shoes before you get to the marathon.

Hi guys I did run the 25 on Saturday and loved every minute of it. Woke up Sunday put the gear on did the stretches and you know what happened next – I went out the back gate, up the hill and turned down hill to start the run, jogged about 150 metres, (maybe 160 by the Garmin) and said enough. I thoguht listen to Phil, the voice of wisdom – he is like one of those monkeys on your back, don’t go too hard. Turned around and walked home for a rest day. It just didn’t feel right despite wanting the wonderful up I get from a good run.

I did 12 yesterday (Monday) and really enjoyed it. Today I had a rest and tomorrow I’ll do as much as I want which could be 15 or could be a rest. I’m in the office now but home soon so let’s see.

Hey by the way when I ran through the Botanical Gardens on Monday I found – get this – 2 $20 notes, 1 $10 note and $3.60 in coin. How good is that? Mind you I was running through lightening and thunder and very heavy rain. A very pleasant pick up.

I’d love to go to the dinner with you guys. I’m actually a very quiet guy but I don’t mind a night out and with all you running geeks I’d feel right at home. Oh and we are geeks sorry. I’ll bring along my $53.60 and maybe we can break the bank the casino?

Great idea, Margaret - that would be nice! I'd love to listen to the experiences of an ultra-marathoner with all of you (and especially being able to talk talk talk about our passsion).
Bruce - glad to hear you're recovered. Put also my name down for the SMHHM.
Phil - great to hear you'll be back on Sunday.
Peter - you're a legend - not only a great runner but also a lucky man, earning money whilst running -perfect match. You can sit next to me if you wish at the award night (I'm rater quiet too when it comes to crowds - so don't worry:)
Lee - thank you for sharing the news - I got really excited to see a number in front of my name - yay!

I'm very excited as I'm back on the program and up and running again.

See you Sunday
