Hi everyone,
I really enjoyed this morning's shorter run. Despite the reduced ks, the hills provided enough of a challenge at this late stage in the programme for it to feel like a workout.
Next time we all get together, it will be for 42k, I'm trying to think of it in the same way as I did the jump from 25 to 30k, or from 30 to 35k. It should work out, and I think we are all ready to give this next jump into the unknown our best shot.
It's been wonderful to run with some more experienced runners over the last few weeks, people like Pauline, Ted and lots of others who have been so generous with their encouragement and shown so much confidence in us as novices to the Marathon. I'm sure that we'll all benefit from having them around in Canberra, at least at the start!
Lee, let us know how you're traveling...pretty good if your 10k time is any indication!
Enjoy the rest of the taper. See you all in Canberra,
Margaret

Ditto on the words of wisdom we've received over the last six months.
It was the Strider folks who made me believe I could do it from that first run back in October. The rest of the world looked at me aghast when I mentioned the Marathon goal.
I still smile every time I think of Max's advice yesterday re the 2 v. 3 arm/fist in the air thing at the finish line... Strider Gold.
(gulp!!) only six more sleeps.
Feelings of panic setting in - 22 weeks and 1,129runing kms have been logged - but I'm still thinking it's THIS Sunday???
As to the carbo loading - I think I need another spreadsheet to plan the 500grams of carbo intake.
Talk to you all later....
Paula
I know my thoughts last time round were:
can I make it (well I made all the other runs eg 25, 30, 35 without the incentive of a 'free' T shirt)
what's the worse that can happen? (A bit of walking; a bit more chatting)
See you all on Saturday
(ps Margaret and I are going to run 3 kms on Saturday at 1 pm - meeting outside Telopea Park Hotel opposite the Expo if you feel like a last spin before we meet at 2pm)
And of course the real challenge is not 42 kms but figureing out how to change the posting time? I read the in SMH Spectrum this week that sometimes the time is 'set' on a 10 hour clock to account for world differences in the time changing...didn't make sense to me..
That's the voice of experience, I like it! I'll be visualising the T-shirt the whole way. Could be something to wear to bed with the Dencorub!
Hello All - share your feelings and cherish every moment I've spent with all of you. The Sunday runs have been so special to me and to have met you all is very special. I never thought I could make it that far ...
I'm so looking forward to it - feel full of beans ready to embrace this incredible moment - and this with all of you.
I'd love to join you Margaret and Denise for a little jog on Saturday. That'll be great, I'm just unsure as I'd like to pick up my racing kit - first thing after stepping out of the bus. I will be arriving at 12pm. And I was not too keen in lining up too long. But I'm very keen to get the Shirts I've purchased on line (hoping to get the colour I ordered).
Paula - sorry I had to dash off yesterday, but what is this 2 v 3 arm/fist thing you mentioned?
Hey Fab Five - am soooooo excited and getting nearly a bit nervous - I'm bouncing with energy today ... I do not know what suddenly happend to me ...
Talk soon
Leonor
... and another thing just came to my mind. Whilst we were running yesterday in North Ryde, I just could not stop thinking, that was my first run with you all. Our first conversations. Paula, talking her German when she was in Austria. And then the next STaR meeting you, Margaret and one day telling us the tip, the great masseur you got. And of course, with a huge admiration for Denise, who already had run a marathon ... and of course Sharyn flying up the hills :)
I think I'm getting a bit notstalgic here ...
Yep, just to let you know what a great journey I had.
Talk very soon
Leonor
I don't know what's going on here but it's almost like I've got the "nesting instinct" happening. My house is super clean (which is most unusual) and I am selling off the kids toys on ebay in an attempt to tidy up.
I had to check my stomach to make sure I wasn't 9 1/2 months pregnant. Luckily all this running ensured there was no bump there.
What is going on?
Phil, you said we'd be jumping out of our skin but this is crazy.
Have a good week everyone:)
Hi everyone, yes it is an exciting week. I was a little sad that Sunday was our last run, but I know that we will run together many many times in the future. But more importantly, I can't be sad (I'm buzzing with excitement) when I keep thinking of what you guys are all going to accomplish this weekend. You are almost there!
Enjoy a quiet week, and pack your bags Thursday night to make sure you have everything you need. re-pack on Friday night.
Try and make it for 2pm on Saturday if you can - you can't register prior to 1pm anyway, and I have never had to wait long. There are only around 1,000 marathon entrants so the queues will be very short. I want to hand out a few more hints/tips for last minute preparation etc at 2pm, so try to be there.
And finally, thanks to my obsession, I thought I would share a couple more quotes with you before the race.
"Dream barriers look very high until someone climbs them. They are not barriers anymore."
- Lasse Viren
"We are different, in essence, from other men. If you want to win something, run 100 meters. If you want to experience something, run a marathon."
-Emil Zatopek
"Believe in yourself, know yourself, deny yourself, and be humble."
- John Treacy's four principles of training prior to Los Angeles 84
ok, ok - no more quotes!! I promise!
btw - check this week's update for the post-race celebration drink venue!
Looking forward very much to seeing you guys all there on Sunday.
Phil
Phil, I love the quotes! I keep mumbling them to myself in bed at night . I know I am different from other men! I just need a great name like Lasse or Emil...or even Deena to go with my aspirations!
