I couldn't agree more. I'm already looking forward to the coming months that will see us training for another marathon. It's been amazing to accomplish something that seemed well and truly beyond my grasp not so long ago. I never imagined that the process could be such fun, thanks to our group. So many experienced runners warned me that Canberra would only be the first of many. I fear they might be right!
I came on board quite late to the MTG after training on my own for months, but making such wonderful new friends and learning so many new things, got me over the finish line (just) last Sunday. Also, Adrienne asked me why I was beaming on Sunday morning, after our breakfast and I said 'after being in Sydney for 2-years, I finally feel that I have made some friends." So thank you all for making me feel so welcome and allowing me into your whanau (family) Lee x
I was talking to my dad this week. He received his black belt in Karate at 70 so I have some respect for him! He asked me how my social life was going and I said running is really great....
He said he hadn't put running and friendship together and I realised that it was my automatic response to his question. I have made great friends too (of course the enticement of the odd jelly bean and song helps too..)
It was very nice, indeed. The company was excellent and I could not wait to get home and read Phil's compilation on our marathon journey - how nice. It felt like getting a little inside in our friends thoughts... interesting how they actually see you! And yes, Lee you've made some friends. There is something very pure and honest about running, something very selfless. You are who you are ... it's just you and your own strength. No hiding or pretending. I know for myself, I'm the happiest in my running gear, being outside, rain hail or shine, enjoying the nature around me. Start running in the middle of the early hours and by the time you finish your long runs the sun starts warming you up. Welcome to a new whanau (did I get this spelling right?!) - sounds pretty. It feels great to be able to live in Sydney - a magic place with wonderful support and friends - you're a great group.

Every ending bringing a new beginning. Roll on the next one.

I didn't really expect to make any friends running, because of the nature of the sport.
I've really enjoyed meeting so many lovely people and making such fab new friends too!
