A New Post FINALLY

Sorry guys but 17 posts was just way too many to scroll through - saving my energy for the kms on the road. And I need every bit of it as this will be ONLY week that I go over 70kms. Sssssshhhhhhhhhhhh don't tell Phil I've missed the odd run here and there - 'cause I know I must be the only one :-)

Firstly, Leonor - Excellent news!! Enjoy the sheer joy that I am sure must come after eight days of no running. Good luck!

Smithfielders - looking forward to the singfest! Off now to find shoulder pads to go with the 80's music I've been assigned!

Oh!!! No-one has come forth re the "strange" water bottle. What does that mean???

Hi,

I've been doing my "other" running for the last week and haven't had time to blog - but have been reading. Great to see the focus.

I'm still trying to work out the pacing for Smithfield. My main concern for Canberra is finishing the first one in a way where I get a feel for it, and want to do more. I don't want to burn out like I did last time at Smithfield when I tried to keep up with the speed team of Peter, Sharyn and John (who were trying to keep up with Chris I think - its a cruel cycle) so I'll see how I go.

Are people going to wear their belts on the Marathon / at Smithfield? Its a vexing question.

I was very impressed by the music selections. I'll try and learn the actual words to some of the funny Lilly Allan songs I like, "Now its over, you ask if we can still be lovers. Maybe its time, I introduced you-to-my-4 brothers." which brings me inside the British genre I've been assigned.

Keep the faith Leonor. According to a lot of articles in Runners World you're not really a runner until you've been out with injury and come back.

Lee, hope the 30k goes well - much tougher doing that kind of run by yourself but feel free to pretend we are there. Phil, "lady by the lake", wasn't that a Monty Python sketch? "Just because some watery tart hurls a sword at you you think you can call yourself King."

Anyway, I'll see the Smithfield Runners Sunday (at 7?), any a merry Sunday long run to those running elsewhere.

Cheers B.

Hi all
I can only do comments too, so Paula, maybe over the 30 long ones tomorrow you could tell me how to do it! You may have to shout to be heard over all the singing.
I am going to wear my fuel belt, I"m not taking it off until I finish The Marathon come April 13, it's become my security blanket and gives me something to fiddle with when I'm getting really tired. But seriously I do like being able to sip fluids frequently during a long run. It seems to work much better than having to gulp down a whole cupful at once.
I'm absolutely with you Bruce, the pacing issue is a bit superfluous for me.For a first-timer with limited running experience I think it's a good idea to aim to finish and do your best, without adding extra pressure. I just want to make canberra as positive an experience as possible so that one day I can think about the next one.
Leonor, enjoy the 6ks, I bet you've got cabin fever by now so I hope it goes well.
See the rest of you tomorrow

I agree Margaret. I am also only aiming to finish and do my best. The best advice I've received is to not worry about what anyone else is doing or try and do the same. Run your own race. It is a personal journey. Having said that the company and support from fellow runners along the way helps get me there.

I've decided to run at Putney due to family commitments. The earlier start and hopefully earlier finish works better for me tomorrow. Good Luck to you all. Have a good run.

I'll see you all on Good Friday 5.30am. My friend Suzanne Kelly (an experienced strider)has helped me plot a flat 35km Wharoonga course.
