Hey!
Still here and awake after our HUGE effort this morning. May now stagger to the tely to watch McDreamy on Gray's before hitting that pillow. I'm also still very chuffed with myself and my time this morning. And I so loved all the support from my fellow Striders - THANK YOU because it really helped. A special thanks to Bruce for his hugely needed tough love in my last 2 kms. I also still smile when I think about us all whooping and high-fiveing each other! I'm sure the rest of the runners hate "those striders" who lob up en mass and take over.
Denise - you WERE missed this morning. How did you go at the STaR? Did you do the 30k? Did you find someone nice to run with? How are those sick kiddies?
Now...... There was a little "grumbling" this morning about the prospect of running in the bush for 14km this coming Sunday. And I hasten to add it wasn't just me who was whinging about that! There came some chat about staging our own rebel run of about 20km with the start/finish somewhere in the city because that is central for all and it means Bruce (aka Fab Friend)can just walk to it. We also wanted free parking for the rest of us carbon emitting automobile users. So.... we thought starting around the Hickson Road/Dawes Point area would be good. I've since thought that we could do the SMH Sydney 1/2 course - the two lap one through the city. I'm also happy to just start there at Hickson Road and run wherever our legs and garmin GPS watches take us.
Anyone interested?

Hi Paula
It was great to see what we're capable of and I think we all did fantastic.
Denise, hope your little ones are getting better, yes indeed we all missed you - just not quite the right Fab Five (ahm, Phil's Fab Five), if one of us is missing...
Paula, I will definitely do the Equalizer at St Ives though. If Bruce can find his way to my place in Eastwood, I'd be more than happy to give him a lift, feel free to mention it to him.
Have a great week
Leonor
Hi Paula
I'm really glad that one is over! Thanks to all the Striders for their encouragement, especially you Paula. If you hadn't let me know I was still on track for the 4.30 Marathon pace at the last hill I'd probably still be out there stumbling around in search of a loo! And Denise you were sorely missed. Your absolute determination to get the job done is an inspiration, so no more sick kids till after April 13! Hope they're on the mend.
Count me in for the city run next week, the SMH loop is a good idea. A bush run is not too tempting for me at the moment. Like Bruce I'm worried I might twist my ankle and all my hard earned training would go capput.
Enjoy lazy Monday
Margaret
Hi all,
Great efforts all around. I don't know what time Leonor and Sharyn ran, but you were looking great when I hit the wall. Did Peter and John finish with you?
Thanks for your support over the last 5km too Paula. I didn't have a good nights sleep Saturday and I really felt the effects half way through the run on Sunday.
Thanks for the offer of a lift Leonor, but I can't run cross country or bush courses because of my ankle, so I'll join in the SMH 1/2 course for Sunday.
If we vary it a little we can get approximately the same 10km distance per lap without having to stop at so many traffic light. Ie, Hickson's rd under the bridge, out past the hotel round to the overseas passenger terminal, down to Circular Quay then down to and out around the Opera House, into the Botanic Gardens and around Farm Cove to Mrs Maquaries chair, up past the Art Gallery to St Mary's and then down Macquarie St to Circular Quay (2 big sets of lights unfortunately), back along to George St right then left up the Argyle Cut throught to Kent, left on Kent down to Margaret and then right down to Hickson's Rd.
Hope everything is going well Denise. Sorry we didn't see you.
I should also say that 1 June is good for me to help host a STAR.
Cheers
Bruce
Hi Everyone
Alec and Kate are now fine thanks. At least they timed it together (although I told them if they are sick on Friday night I will pay them $5 each as Ian paddles on Saturdays....).
The 30kms was relaxed - I ran from home to the starting point then finished at home! and the company good but not quite up the usual standard of the FabFive&Friends.
I would like to do the city Run as I want to do a longer run; I am happy to meet anywhere and as a local Bruce I assume is organising refreshments!
I am running the marathon route in Canberra on the 9th March so if you have any pertinent questions (like where is the finish line) I am happy to check it out when I am there.
Denise
Sounds like a plan and that Bruce gets to be our tour guide.
Shall we meet at 5.50am outside the Sydney Theatre Company to ensure a 6am departure. Or is there a better meeting place?
Have no clue as to Sharyn's thoughts about this one as yet. However, I do know that Claudia from the MTG was interested in the idea of an alternate city run when the idea first raised at the SMC on Sunday. So I've invited her along. Our fab four may yet be a fab five or more.
It's okay to have subs for the "fab five" isn't it???? I don't suppose the Beatles ever did that.......Mmmmmmmmm
I'll practice being a mini-STaR Host this Sunday. I'll try and do some Google maps, I have my powdered Gatorade which I can bring in big bottles, and I'll get some lollies, coke and diet coke cans. Anything else?
5:50 sounds good. I think that the parking is much easier (and possibly free) on a Sunday further down Hickson Rd near Margaret St. As it is away from the entertainment and housing at the STC and wharf there are a lot less cars.
I'll check out the parking situation and try out a modified course to avoid traffic lights and to get a nice 10k loop on tonights run and report back.
Bruce it sounds great. We can always put an esky in my car. Paula I think it is good to have subs - even the Wiggles replaced someone recently! (although I draw the line at running with a coloured skivy).
5.50 @ Sydney Theatre Company is great.
Denise
Hi 5 + Bruce
I like the idea of the esky. That sounds very promising! I'll bring some fruit to help soak up whatever it is we will be drinking.
See you all at 5.50 in my skivvy. I'm off to co-ordinate my i-pod selection.
Margaret
I want to bring something too!
Bruce - should I do the drinks as I'll have a car in which an esky can be left there?
You're walking from home to the start aren't you? Or would you like me to swing by George Street and pick you up?
Oh and Bruce - NO JELLYBEANS!
Denise - you are yet to hear all about how our biggest lesson from last week's "race" which was to NEVER EVER eat jellybeans while running!
Hi,
I've ordered some coke, diet coke, caffiene free diet coke and coke zero cans, and some snakes and mixed soft lollies like snakes (no jelly beans), and I have gatorade powder.
Paula if you bring an esky I'll get a cab down with the goods in a bag and meet you there and transfer the drinks to an esky.
